Laos’ Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport agreed to jumpstart the building of an expressway connecting the countries’ capitals, Vientiane and Hanoi.

According to the Nation Multimedia, the transit of Lao goods through Vung Ang port will also be in place. The construction of the Hanoi-Vientiane expressway and Vientiane-Vung Ang railway is reported to be imperative to the success of the nations’ bilateral trade.

In the same report, Nation Multimedia also stated that “these projects are viewed as prerequisites for Laos to become a goods transit centre within the region.”

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc promised that Vietnam would carry out the best possible initiatives to help Laos with transport development. He added that Vietnam is going to enable Laos to use their country’s sea ports to support Laos’ economic development.

Xuan Phuc also said that both Laos and Vietnam will be working with foreign consultants to finish the construction of the expressway as soon as possible.
