The Indian state of Punjab has declared free education for all girls from nursery till doctorate level at government institutions.
To make education more accessible to girls, Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh announced that the government will provide them with free education from kindergarten to doctorate level.
As per the report by the Hindustan Times, a spokesperson of the government also said that they will introduce free textbooks to all students of government schools, and will introduce pre-primary classes (nursery and LKG) in government schools from the next academic session.
The state will also provide free internet service in 13,000 primary schools and all 48 government colleges. On a pilot basis, the English language will be used as the medium of instruction in government schools.
Five new colleges are also to be set up in the state in the current financial year.
