American billionaire offers ‘to match every donation’ made to fight gun violence

Billionaire Mike Bloomberg has called on the people of America to ‘give now’ and has pledged ‘to match every donation’ that is made to fight gun violence.

The former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that he will match every donation that is given to Everytown for Gun Safety, the nonprofit organization that he founded in 2014 which advocates for gun control.

“US has a gun violence problem,” the billionaire wrote on Twitter. “I’ll match every donation. Give now,” reported CNBC

Bloomberg has been a long-time advocate of tighter firearm regulations.  As the Everytown site notes, “Every day, 93 Americans are killed by gun violence” and “Americans are 25 times more likely to be murdered with a gun than people in other developed countries.” The donations go toward increasing regulations in an effort to fight these crimes.

It is usual for donations to increase after mass shootings like the one in Las Vegas, which left 59 dead and over 500 injured.
